Hi! Welcome. This case study takes you through the design processes and decisions that went into the design of SoliMax,  a Crypto Launchpad. SoliMax is a protocol aiming to provide users with the capabilities to launch their own token and create their own initial token presale

Overview

When i was approached to be a member of the team to create OfficeHR, I was delighted by the idea on what it is to be about. Having experienced working in a number of start-ups, I could relate to how difficult carrying out HR processes was to the management. From hiring, onboarding, team management down to payments was a struggle.

When I started working on OfficeHR, my goal wasn’t just to design another HR software , rather  it was to make HR management easy to execute for small teams. Most HR tools were built for large organizations with dedicated HR departments. But for small businesses where the founder or a single operations person handles everything , these tools felt heavy, confusing, and overcomplicated.

OfficeHR was my attempt to change that. It is a human-centered HR management system that helps small and medium-sized businesses manage hiring, onboarding, and employee operations in one simple space.

The vision was clear, to help small teams manage people, not paperwork.

Throughout the design process, I focused on reducing friction, simplifying the setup journey, and guiding users through tasks in a way that felt natural, almost like having an HR assistant by your side.

What is Gifta?

Gifta is a unique platform that offers a solution to the common problem of gifting – making it easier to give and receive the perfect gift. The platform allows users to create a wishlist, add items, and get shareable links they could share it with their loved ones. It is a simple and effective way for individuals to create a list of items they want for a special occasion, like a birthday or anniversary. The wishlist is fully customizable and allows users to add items and images of the products they want. Users can also add links to the specific website where they found the item, making it easier for others to purchase it directly.

Organizations can also use Gifta to receive contributions for fundraising campaigns, charity events, and other special occasions. The platform makes the process of fundraising much more efficient and allows organizations to focus on their cause rather than the logistics of collecting funds. With Gifta, organizations can create a campaign, share it with their supporters, and receive contributions towards their fundraising goals.

The platform also makes it easy for groups of friends to make plans and co-purchase items. For instance, if a group of friends is planning a surprise party for their friend and wants to purchase a big-ticket item like a new laptop or camera, they can use Gifta to create a group wishlist. They can then invite their friends to make a contribution towards the item, making it a more memorable and meaningful experience for both the recipient and the givers.

What is Hang ?

Hang is a project that aims to promote physical interaction among individuals by providing a platform that facilitates the planning and execution of in-person hangouts. Hang encourages users to step away from their digital devices and connect with others in the real world. The platform allows users to create and join groups based on shared interests, hobbies, and activities, making it easier for users to find and connect with like-minded individuals.

One of the primary objectives of Hang is to foster a sense of community. By bringing people together and promoting physical interaction, Hang aims to create a space where individuals can connect with others who share their interests, values, and goals. This sense of community helps combat feelings of loneliness and alienation that can arise when relying solely on digital communication.

To address potential safety concerns, Hang includes features that help users vet potential group members and ensure the safety of all participants. Users can verify their identities through the platform, and community administrators can approve or reject members requests to attend events based on user profiles and shared interests.

My Process

To move from assumptions to clarity, I carried out a short but focused research. My goal was to understand how small teams currently manage their HR workflows, what frustrates them about existing tools, and where opportunities for simplification lie. I used the Double Diamond Method as a toolkit to guide my execution. This is because I find it to be well structured and  suitable for the project.

Setting Context

Web3  is an interesting technology that attempts to eliminate the bottlenecks that we encounter with existing traditional financial structures. It offers benefits like transparency, security, and inclusivity. It eliminates intermediaries and promotes peer-to-peer interactions.

While it’s easy to access crypto tokens, these digital assets are held in different blockchain networks. This means that it is impossible to use ETH tokens held on the Ethereum blockchain to interact with the Solana blockchain, or another alternative blockchains.

SoliMax was built as a blockchain to eliminate the hassle of interacting with different DEXes hosted on different blockchain networks as it will be assembling all of this tokens in one place, it’s launchpad. With Solimax, you can access vast crypto projects from varying blockchain networks without hassle.

The Challenge

Overtime, the economy of Nigeria has been on a decline. This has led to an increase in the number of individuals seeking loans to survive. While there are organizations willing to provide these loans, there’s a bigger need to efficiently manage the entire loan distribution and recovery process easily.

Most lending organizations manage their activities through a manual system. Managing these transactions through a manual system of operation are prone to errors and unimagined complexities, making it so difficult a task maintaining all entries of users accounts, search record of activities, handle loan release and reduction errors, down to generating financial reports.

LoanLogic is targeted towards eliminating this menace, deploying a dynamic system that will effectively manage the loan scheme of every lending organization. The system essentially manages both short term, long term loans, loan defaulters and keeps tracks of cash inflow and outflow.

Business Goal

To develop a loan management platform that streamlines and automates the entire loan recovery process, reducing manual intervention and enhancing efficiency, while providing a seamless experience for both lending organizations and recovery agents

Target Audience

  • Lenders - This includes lending organizations (Microfinance banks, commercial banks, cooperative societies, etc)
  • Portal Users - This includes recovery agents/staff that would use the product for daily activities

Market Research

To start the process, I initiated primary research with the goal of obtaining a broad comprehension of the lending market. This involved studying a diverse spectrum of microenterprises, SMEs, groups, and individuals engaged in providing loans. The primary objective was to grasp how services are operated within the lending industry and to establish a connection between user objectives and business objectives.

Gathering Context - Understanding existing workflow for lending services

  • KYC and review is completed
  • Loan approval, rejection, or request for additional information is communicated to the customer.
  • Customer is sent an approval email along with instructions for the next steps.
  • Funds are released, and the customer obtains the loan.

Repayment of the loan

  • Repayment schedule reminder is sent to customer
  • Customer is required to manually repay loan or auto debited upon due date
  • Loan is repaid until full loan repayment cycle is complete

Managing the loan

  • Customer defaults in loan repayment and receives emails or calls
  • Constant reminders on loan replayment
  • Auto debits on other Bank Verification Number (BVN) related accounts. (Rare)
  • Legal action or collateral claim

As soon as I established what the business goal was, I conducted a more extensive research. This time, through the UX lens.

LoanLogic is an innovation, which is bound to bring swift changes in routine cultural loan practices of lending organizations as it promotes efficiency and productivity with capabilities to eliminate data inconsistency and redundancy as well as ensuring data integrity and security, with guaranteed fast retrieval response time.

How might we use LoanLogic to better manage lending? (Findings)

After successfully conducting rounds of interview and looking up existing data on lending in third world countries, LoanLogic will aid be a great addition to the arsenal of lending organizations as it will enable them in:

  • Efficiency and Automation: LoanLogic automates and streamline the lending process, reducing paperwork and manual tasks. It tracks loans payable or receivable from the application through daily processing and reporting. An Integrated system that allows you to accrue interest and manage your loan portfolio.
  • Data Management: The system has the capacity of reporting information for decision making about borrowers savings status and loans. It accesses the data you need with an intuitive graphical user interface. It enables you to create your own reports or use one of the many standard report formats that come with the system.
  • Transparency and Accountability: Keep track of loans, assess fees for late payment or write off balances as necessary. LoanLogic will generate amortization schedules; automatically allocate payments between principal and interest, and print checks, payment receipts, or statements.
  • Scalability: With the high number of borrowers in Nigeria, scalable loan management platforms like LoanLogic can accommodate growth and serve a broader customer base without a significant increase in operational cost

Solution.

I developed some high level product requirements and I was able to establish several goals for the project:

  • Consolidate use cases from the two separate platforms, Portal users and LoanLogic as a host, into one new enhanced dashboard separated by roles and permission
  • Prioritize, and pull out features from them
  • Increase user engagement with the dashboard by designing a system that allows users to quickly view and complete their tasks and scan through relevant information quickly.
  • Visualize incoming appointments in the most intuitive way to help users better manage repayment appointments and assignments, with intuitive filters, and contextual searches
  • Create, view, modify, approve new loans, oversee user permissions, monitor existing loans, and effortlessly navigate through user collateral information.

The Challenge

To come up with an easy-to-use platform that would be navigable by both non-tech and tech-savvy users, I encountered a significant UX challenge while working on SoliMax. The primary hurdle was addressing the complexities associated with blockchain technology, particularly for users who were new to the space.

The challenge was twofold – designing an interface that not only caters to seasoned users but also guides newcomers through the intricacies of blockchain technology. The goal was to create an efficient flow that enhances the user experience, making it accessible and understandable for individuals unfamiliar with the technology.

SoliMax was built as a blockchain to eliminate the hassle of interacting with different DEXes hosted on different blockchain networks as it will be assembling all of this tokens in one place, it’s launchpad. With Solimax, you can access vast crypto projects from varying blockchain networks without hassle.

Business Goal

By providing intuitive tools for token creation, offering early investment opportunities, and fostering a supportive community, SoliMax aims to empower individuals to confidently explore, engage, and contribute to the dynamic and evolving Web3 ecosystem.

Target Audience

  • Creators
  • Investors

Market Research

Before diving into the design of the launchpad, it was crucial that I conduct a market research. This was to aid me understand core product requirements and market dynamics, identify user preferences, and analyze the competitive landscape.

For this project, I prominently did secondary research with an emphasis on competitor analysis. I tried out existing launchpads like Pinksale, Binance Launchpad, Seedify fund, to get first-hand experience and compared it to set benchmarks to drive product decisions. This was aimed at identifying market gaps and opportunities, understanding our target audience’s preferences, and designing features that address those needs effectively.

Key Features

So far, my research has uncovered key areas of opportunity. Upon completion of the research, these key features were relevant to SoliMax’s core objective. They include;

  • A Decentralized Ecosystem:: Solimax will champion decentralization, offering a robust ecosystem where users can explore, create, and participate in Web3 projects without traditional gatekeepers.
  • Token Creation for All: One of Solimax's standout features is a user-friendly interface that empowers everyone, irrespective of technical expertise, to create their crypto coins effortlessly. This democratization of token creation opens up new possibilities for a wide array of users.

The Process

Research

Sharing wishlists on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram has become a trend in recent times. People often take screenshots of their notes app, where they have jotted down a list of items they want as gifts for their birthdays, anniversaries, or other special occasions, and post it on social media platforms.

As this trend gained momentum, it became clear that people are looking for a more streamlined way to create and share wishlists, plan group purchase and raise funds. The confirmation of the need for Gifta also came through informal discussions with acquaintances. Many people expressed their desire for a platform that like Gifta and now we are bringing Gifta to all.

Defining Features

With clear set out goals to propose the need for a seamless gifting and fundraising experience, platform, we dived into outlining key features to be accommodated.

  • Wishlist creation and management for individuals and group of friends
  • Fundraising for organizations
  • Payments / Withdrawals

The Process

Research

As a UX designer for Hang, It was ideal to understand the needs and preferences of our target audience to ensure that we build a product that would meet their expectations. To achieve this, I conducted one-on-one interviews with creatives and remote workers and surveyed participants in online communities.

The one-on-one interviews provided an opportunity for me to gain insights into the challenges faced by the intended user and understand how Hang could address these challenges. I reached out to 5 participants comprising of creatives and remote workers who were interested in connecting with others in person. During the interviews, I asked open-ended questions that allowed participants to share their experiences and opinions freely.

Some of the questions I asked included:

  • What are some of the challenges you face when trying to connect with others in person?
  • What features would you like to see in a platform that helps you plan and execute in-person hangouts?
  • How important is safety when considering joining a group of strangers for an in-person activity?

In addition to the one-on-one interviews, I also conducted surveys with participants in online communities. These surveys provided a larger sample size and allowed me to gather data on a broader range of topics. The survey included questions about participants' preferences for group activities, their opinions on in-person connections, and their thoughts on safety and privacy.

Understanding the problem

Managing people is one of the most critical yet overwhelming parts of running a small business. Most SMEs don’t have full-fledged HR departments,  often, a single person handling recruitment, onboarding, payroll, and compliance on top of their regular duties. The market is filled with HR systems built for large enterprises, packed with features but designed with complex hierarchies and processes in mind. For smaller teams, these platforms often create more friction than value.

The journey began with a simple question,
“Why do small businesses struggle so much with HR tools that are supposed to make their work easier?”

My research focused on

  • Understanding how small business owners and HR managers manage people.
  • Uncovering where existing HR tools create friction, confusion, or overwhelm users.
  • Identifying what type of guidance and structure users need to feel confident using a digital HR system.

Through user interviews with SME owners and HR managers and competitive analysis, I uncovered patterns that provided insight on my research objectives.

Key Takeaways

Existing HRMS setups feels complicated, with too many steps before seeing any real benefit.

Terminologies used are confusing, often using enterprise language that doesn’t fit small businesses.

Feature overload leads to frustration, users only need a fraction of the capabilities offered.

As a result of these experiences, many SMEs were using multiple disconnected tools, Google Sheets for attendance, WhatsApp for communication, and email for onboarding documents

OfficeHR was born out of the need to simplify that, to make HR management less about admin tasks and more about people.

After synthesising findings, I reframed my goal statement from just designing an HR tool to simplifying HR management for small teams by reducing fragmentation and guiding users through every step.

I prioritised problems based on business importance, user frustration, and feasibility, leading to three core problem statements:

  • SMEs rely on fragmented tools that cause duplication and data loss.
  • Users lack guidance and visibility in existing HR workflows.
  • Onboarding into new systems feels overwhelming and unintuitive.

This clarity established our design goals:

  • Unify HR processes under one simple flow.
  • Guide users from setup to completion.
  • Empower new users with immediate value and confidence.

Defining features

With clear set out goals to promote physical human interaction, we dived into outlining key features to be accommodated.

They include

  • Community creation and management
  • Event creation and management
  • Privacy and security

Personas

To design an HR system that truly represents the realities of small businesses, I needed to understand the people behind those businesses, their goals, frustrations, and everyday habits.

From the interviews and research insights, two key user types emerged:

  • The small business owner who juggles multiple roles and just wants to manage people without the stress of complex tools.
  • The HR manager in a growing company, trying to bring structure and visibility to team management without overwhelming their colleagues.

These personas helped me humanize the design process. They guided decisions around simplicity, guidance, and clarity, ensuring every feature in OfficeHR solved a real problem for real people.

Designing the Solution

The research and journey mapping revealed that users didn’t need more HR features, they needed a more intentional flow. Translating research  into design direction meant focusing on what mattered most to users, aiming for clarity, ease and structure.  I prioritised features that addressed the most critical pain points uncovered during research and mapped out their architecture on how users would move through them.

The Design

Wishlist Creation and Management

The wishlist feature of Gifta is a central component of the platform that allows users to create and manage their wishlists. Users can easily add items to desired items of their choice.  It serves as a tool that helps users to keep track of their desired items while making it easier for their loved ones to find the perfect gift.

Organization Fundraising

Gifta is a platform that can be used by organizations, like NGOs, to raise funds for their causes. By creating a campaign on Gifta, organizations can easily share their fundraising goals with their supporters and receive contributions towards achieving them.

Payments

Contributions and withdrawals are an essential part of the Gifta platform, allowing users to receive and manage funds from their wishlist and campaigns. When someone makes a contribution to a user's wishlist item or campaign on Gifta, the funds are securely processed and added to the user's Gifta balance. The user can then use these funds to purchase the desired item or use them towards their campaign goal.

The Design

Onboarding and Identity Verification

Registration on Hang is a simple and straightforward process. Users are required to provide basic information. To ensure the safety and security of our users, Hang also includes identity verification measures. Users can choose to verify their identity by providing a government-issued ID, such as a passport or driver's license. This helps to prevent fraudulent accounts and ensures that users can trust the identity of the individuals they are interacting with on the platform.

High Fidelity Designs

With the user flow validated, I moved into translating the concepts into polished, high-fidelity designs. At this stage, the goal was to balance functionality with emotional clarity, creating an interface that not only works well but also feels intuitive to use.

To maintain visual consistency and scalability across OfficeHR, I developed a style guide that documented the core elements of the product’s visual language. The goal was to create a system that feels calm and approachable, aligning with OfficeHR’s mission to make HR management less stressful and more human.

Hiring and Onboarding

OfficeHR makes it easy to manage the recruitment process, from posting job vacancies to tracking applications and scheduling interviews. The platform allows HR professionals to create customized onboarding workflows, ensuring a smooth transition for new hires.

Employee management

OfficeHR provides a centralized platform for managing employee data, including personal information, employment history, and performance evaluations. HR professionals can easily access this information, track progress, and make changes as needed.

Performance management

OfficeHR provides tools for setting and tracking goals, conducting performance evaluations, and providing feedback to employees. This helps to ensure that employees are meeting expectations and contributing to the company's success.

Payroll & benefits

OfficeHR offers tools to manage payroll and benefits, including automatic calculations, tax deductions, and benefits administration. This helps to reduce errors and streamline the payroll process.

Testing

Upon completion of the designs, we conducted rounds of user testing to ensure that our designs were user-friendly and effective. We worked with a diverse group of individuals, including creatives, remote workers, and members of online communities, to get a range of perspectives and feedback.

During the testing process, we presented users with different iterations of our designs and asked for their feedback. We observed how users interacted with the platform and listened to their comments and suggestions. This feedback was then used to iterate on the design and make improvements.

Outcome

The testing phase of Hang was a success, with users responding positively to the platform's design and features. While we are proud of the progress we have made so far, we acknowledge that Hang is still in development and we are committed to continuing to improve the platform. We have set key performance indicators (KPIs) that we will use to measure the success of the platform, including user engagement and community growth. We are excited to see how these KPIs will be checked off as Hang continues to evolve and grow.

Testing and Validation

To validate the design, I conducted a test with two SME founders and 2 HR professionals. The session focused on observing how easily they could complete tasks like setting up a company profile, onboarding a new employee, posting a job, and navigating the dashboards and reports in general. Each participants screen was recorded to analyze navigation patterns.

The testing provided valuable insight into how users interacted with OfficeHR, what confused them, what excited them, and where they lost momentum. Rather than treating feedback as a checklist, I used it to refine the product’s structure, pacing, and emotional tone.

Key Findings

User Authentication

One of the earliest challenges users faced in OfficeHR was during the account setup process. An earlier variation combined every require detail into a single, lengthy page. While it captured all the necessary information, it was cognitively heavy. Some users abandoned the flow midway because it felt overwhelming. Instead of one long form, this insights guided me to restructure it into three progressive steps, each focused on a single goal

auth-findingsauth-findingsauth-findings

Product Tour

After completing setup, users landed on the dashboard but felt uncertain about where to start. Based on this insight, I introduced a guided tour. This was aimed at helping users discover OfficeHR’s core features

Product tour

Demo Templates

Even after understanding the platform, users felt lost when faced with empty dashboards. They didn’t know what to create first. Introducing demo templates fixed this. Using templates to better activate our users helps those struggling to start from a blank slate. By offering demo templates we aim to eliminate guesswork and reduced hesitation.

Outcome and Reflection

Working as a solo UX Designer came with its challenges. Those challenges though overcame include:

  • The requirements got somewhat complex because of how multifaceted SaaS projects can get, primarily because it involves multiple user types. To bypass this, I made my information architecture my buddy and just let it serve as a guide
  • Organizations may have unique HR policies and procedures, so ensuring the design is customizable to meet the specific needs of each organization poised a challenge

This project taught me how small design decisions, like breaking down setup steps or introducing guidance can deeply affect usability and retention. For me, it reinforced the idea that good UX isn’t about flashy visuals but clarity, pacing, and empathy.

Research

Getting Started with this phase, the research goal was aimed at

Identifying target market (Big gaming companies vs SMEs vs Web3

Prior to the research, we had an existing hypothesis. This includes

  • Viable Industry: Projected revenue in gaming being around 386 billion by 2023, mobile gaming being 60% of it
  • Monetisation: Player feedback is hugely valued by game developers therefore developers will pay a VOOP AI Subscription
  • Reward as incentive: Players will leave feedback in return for a reward
  • Monopoly: No direct competition in the gaming voice note market. There are no other technologies that are easily implemented to achieve same result.

Using both broad and targeted validation techniques, the outcome of the research was that; Bigger gaming companies have their own internal data generation processes while Small and Medium size establishments are excited for the technology and can’t wait to adopt it as it will positively influence their development process. Gamers and game testers also showed positive interest as voice allows for more nuanced and expressive feedback, conveying emotions, enthusiasm, frustration, or excitement, while eliminating ambiguity and misinterpretation that may occur with written text, making it easier to articulate specific issues or suggestions.

This was validated using one on one interviews and data analysis by the product team. Participants in the research include

  • Gaming Companies
  • Professional & recreational game players
  • Venture Capitalists
  • Game testers

The goal for VOOP is to build an easy to use system that Listens > Categorizes > Displays Insights
